Group members- Maria Reyes Cynthia Herrera Junior Guiterrez POPSICLE STICK BRIDGE TEAM BUILDING CHALLENGE (PHYSICS B PROJECT #1)

Project Description and Challenge The project was to build a bridge of your choice and make sure it held the requirements given. Such as length less than a meter stick and only 300 sticks to be used. The challenge was that the bridge you construct must be able to hold 40 textbooks for 5 minutes.

Pictures (making the bridge)

Problems/Challenges (making the bridge) Some problems we faced during making the bridge was that we placed x’s underneath to make the structure strong. But then we couldn’t add the legs of the bridge! SOLUTION! The solution we used was to hot glue sticks ontop of the x’s to help add the legs and keep the bridge balanced.

Popsicle Stick Bridge

Measurements/Dimensions: L- 27 ½ inches W -4 ½ inches H - 4 ½ inches STRENGTH OF THE BRIDGE: 40 textbooks Mass of the Popsicle Stick Bridge: 453 grams

Physics of Bridges The forces on the beam bridge are the weight of the bridge and the reaction from the supports. As the weight pushes down on the supports we are going to assume that majority of the weight is in the center.
