3. Copyright, Licensing, Permissions and Passwords Faculty may place on Reserve: - One chapter or up to 10% from a book –One article or up to 10% from a journal –Any publication in which they are the sole owner of copyright –Copyrighted material may or may not be owned by Georgia Tech

Copyright, Licensing, Permissions and Passwords Copyrighted material must comply with the 4 factors governing fair use: –The character of the use –The nature of the work to be used –The amount used –The effect of the use on the market for, or value of, the work Restrictions: –Course packets or anthologies of readings for which royalties have not been paid –Articles used a second semester that are less than 2 years old

Revisions to Electronic Reserves Under Consideration Effective Spring 2005 1 st semester: –Status quo Subsequent semesters: –Reserves staff will seek rights holder permission –Retaining materials Linking to full text databases: If our license agreement permits, we will provide a direct link into the full text database
