3 Division Information Primary/Junior division focuses on students in JK to grade 6 Junior/Intermediate division focuses on students in grades 4-6, 7/8 and 9/10 Main difference between 2 divisions J/I require a teachable – 3 full courses in one of the following: –English (First language) –Geography –History –Mathematics –Computer Studies

5 YEAR 1 BA/BSc/BEd Concurrent Education Primary/Junior EDUC 1123 Observation and Practice Teaching EDUC 4102 Education and Schooling Junior/Intermediate EDUC 1013 Observation and Practice Teaching EDUC 4202 Education and Schooling

6 Education and Schooling  History of education  Philosophy of education  Educational law  Social issues in education today

7 Observation & Practice Teaching Course Provides information about roles and responsibilities of the student teacher and the associate teacher Includes scheduled class time and practicum: February 11, March 25 Requirements: student mail completed logbook to instructor after May PT. Must complete above requirements in order to register for Year Two.

9 Placement Times: Year One February 22-25, 2011 May 2-6, 2011 Take place at same school Can give preferred location but can be placed anywhere within school board boundaries Carpool Opportunities

10 Future Placements Second Year: two weeks (Oct and May) Third Year: three weeks (Feb and May) Fourth Year: three weeks (Oct and May) Fifth Year: thirteen weeks (January to April) four weeks will be Service Learning Options in Fifth Year: International Native Education * Outdoor Education * Kindergarten * * Must take option course (year 3 or 4) to be eligible for these placements.

11 POLICE BACKGROUND CHECK All students must have a cleared police background check in order to attend placement. PLEASE: visit your local police station/OPP Detachment during October reading break. (Oct.12-15) Request check through CPIC as well as Vulnerable Sector Screening. May require my signature. Fax if allowed. Once you have your check, bring to my office, F206
