Submodeling Crank Shaft 1.Enter ANSYS in the working directory specified by your instructor using “crank- coarse” as the jobname. 2.Resume the “crank-coarse.db1” database file: –Utility Menu > File > Resume from … –Or issue: RESUME,crank-coarse,db1 3.Enter POST1 and plot the von Mises stress for the coarse model: –Main Menu > General Postproc > Plot Results > -Contour Plot- Nodal Solu... –Or issue: /POST1 PLNSOL,S,EQV

Submodeling Crank Shaft 4.Change the jobname to “crank-fine”: –Utility Menu > File > Change Jobname … –Or issue: FINISH /FILNAME,crank-fine 5.Enter the preprocessor and clear the coarse mesh: –Main Menu > Preprocessor > MeshTool … –Or issue: /PREP7 VCLEAR,ALL 6.Plot the volumes, then do a pairwise intersection of volumes 1, 5, and 4: –Utility Menu > Plot > Volumes –Main Menu > Preprocessor > -Modeling- Operate > -Booleans- Intersect > -Pairwise- Volumes + –Or issue: VPLOT VINP,1,5,4

Submodeling Crank Shaft 12.Select the outer surface nodes at a radius of 9 inches: a) Define a local cylindrical coordinate system at X=0, Y=0, Z=17.5 and rotate 90 degrees about the local Y axis (i.e. THZX=90): –Utility Menu > WorkPlane > Local Coordinate Systems > Create Local CS > At Specified Loc + Enter “0,0,17.5” in the ANSYS Input window followed by [Enter] [OK] KCS = “Cylindrical 1” THZX = 90 [OK] –Or issue: LOCAL,11,1,0,0,17.5,,,90

Submodeling Crank Shaft 13.Write the nodes to a file called “crank-fine.node”: –Main Menu > Preprocessor > -Modeling- Create > Nodes > Write Node File … –Or issue: NWRITE,crank-fine,node 14.Save the database: –Utility Menu > File > Save as Jobname.db (or pick the “SAVE_DB” button in the Toolbar) –Or issue: SAVE 15.Resume the “crank-coarse.db1” database file again: –Utility Menu > File > Resume from … –Or issue: RESUME,crank-coarse,db1 16.Enter the general postprocessor and interpolate DOFs: –Main Menu > General Postprocessor > Submodeling > Interpolate DOF [OK] –Or issue: /POST1 CBDOF

Save the database and obtain the submodel solution: –Utility Menu > File > Save as Jobname.db (or pick the “SAVE_DB” button in the Toolbar) –Main Menu > Solution > -Solve- Current LS –Or issue: SAVE SOLVE 22.Turn off the display of the local coordinate system and then save the database: –Utility Menu > PlotCtrls > Symbols … Select “None” for Boundary condition symbol Set CS = Off under Other Symbols [OK] –Utility Menu > File > Save as Jobname.db –Or issue: /PBC,ALL,,0 /PSYMB,CS,0 SAVE
