TE Module Electric Control Sys. Fan  Control System is largely dependent upon nominal voltage output of TE  Purpose: Provide steady, constant electric current to fan to meet airflow needs

 Simplest Design – TE directly connected to fan  No electronic components in this system TE Module Fan

 Power Conditioner  PC System will be one of 3 designs:  Smoothing – flatten output ripple from TE  Step Down – Voltage regulation of TE output to match fan’s req’d V  Step Up – circuit/switching that increases V supply for fan TE Module Power Conditioning Fan

 Power Conditioning with Battery  Will require a switching (battery power-> circuit power)  Charging circuit TE Module Power Conditioning Fan Battery

 “Complete” – Battery & Aux. Power  Same circuitry as previous platform, plus:  Step up & Regulation circuitry for 12V output  The battery is not required, but including it constitutes the most complex design TE Module Power Conditioning Fan Battery 12V DC Output

 Considerations:  Platform selection based on output of TE and electrical needs of fan  Assumptions  Will need a battery for instant fan start-up  TE takes time to develop Δ T  Based on most TE characteristics, a step up circuit is likely needed  Smoothing TE ripple current->converter->V regulator  Added complexity means increased cost  Complex design may be suitable for vendors, the project needs will then change

 General Needs (for a Haitian family)  1. The fan must have a constant, steady current supplied to it. 50%  2. The current must be supplied for the entire duration of stove operation. 30%  3. The system starts the fan immediately (i.e. has a battery). 15%  4. The system has an auxiliary power supply. 5%
