3. The Lesson The Israelites were blessed by God However, they died in the wilderness because of their unfaithfulness We have been blessed by God We have been baptized We take the Lord’s Supper We can still fall away, too

4. The Sins of Israel They lusted after evil things Numbers 11:4-6 discontent, ingratitude Returned to Egypt in their hearts They practiced idolatry Exodus 32:1-8 Idolatry is spiritual adultery Putting trust in anything other than God is idolatry Colossians 3:5

The Sins of Israel They committed fornication Numbers 25:1-11 Often accompanies idolatry Ruins relationships; ruins health V. 11 fornication dishonors God They tempted the Lord Numbers 21:4-9 Lack of faith in God’s goodness; impatient v.4 They complained (ingratitude) Numbers 11:1, 4-6; 14:2-6; 16:41; 20:3-5; 21:4-5

6. The Warning for Us They are examples for us v.6, 11 The warning: Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall v.12 Do not be overconfident Luke 22:24-34 Pride Proverbs 16:18 You can fall Galatians 6:1-2 Possibility is not inevitability 2 Peter 1:5-11

7. God’s Promise for Us 1 Cor. 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

God’s Promise for Us We all face the same temptations We all face the same process James 1:13-15 God will not let you be tempted beyond your ability to bear it or to flee it God emphasizes the certainty of this promise with “God is faithful” God allows you to be tested. He wants you to pass the test
