ECR - PSB: New KSW magnet in 16L1 Luis Feliciano, 4 th February

Agenda Introduction Reason for the change. Existing Situation and Future. Other changes on the KSW magnets Conclusion

Introduction During the installation of the new H − injection system, the KSW1L1 magnet stack will be removed from his present location to create place to the new injection system. A new KSW magnet stack needs to be installed in section 16L1. Figure 1, Present (left) and future (right) situation in PS Booster straight section 1.

Reason for the change For the 160 MeV beam injection into the booster, a new H − charge- exchange injection system will be installed in section 1L1. In order to create sufficient space for this new system, the KSW magnet, currently installed in 1L1, needs to be removed and it is proposed to install a new KSW magnet in section 16L1. The painting bump, required for the H − charge-exchange injection system, is made using a series of 4 horizontal kicker stacks (KSW), outside the injection region to produce a closed orbit offset of 35 mm at the injection foil. The four KSW will be used to accomplish painting in the horizontal phase space to match the injected beams to the required emittances.

Existing Situation and Future in section 16L1 In the existing 16L1 layout, dipoles BR.DHZ.16L1 and BR.DVT.16L1 are installed as well as multipoles BR.XNO.16L1 and BR.QNO.16L1. The remainder of the zone is empty and occupied by a vacuum chamber, as shown in figure 2. Figure 2, Part of the installation drawing of the current PSB layout of section 16L1, showing the installed BR.MCC16L1 assembly (8) and the BR.MM16L1 (1), assembly and vacuum chamber (4). Present (left) and future (right) situation in PS Booster 16L1.

Other changes on KSW magnets Some of the existing KSW magnets will need to be re-engineered and re- located. The present layout configuration and the electrical parameters of the KSW Painting Magnets will significantly change. The two major modifications that are required are: a) The 1L1 magnet stack will be removed from its present location as shown in to give place to the new injection system; b) A new 16L1 magnet stack will be installed in section 16L1. c) Other minor changes include the installation of a new magnet in 16L4 and move the currently installed 16L4 magnet to position 2L1.

Conclusion Installation at the winter stop 2015-2016 This advanced installation would considerably reduce required manpower and intervention time during LIU PSB modifications in LS2. During this phase the objective is to only install the magnet (KSW 16L1) and modify the vacuum sector.
