3 BCPS Gifted & Talented Programs Magnet Academic Acceleration  Grades 1-5  Kolb Elementary Cluster Enrichment  Grades 1-5  Auburn Elementary  Hampton Elementary  Kolb Elementary  McAlear-Sawden Elementary  Washington Elementary Middle School Honors Program  Grades 6-8  Handy Middle School  Western Middle School

4 Elementary Program Offerings Academic Acceleration  Students are from around the district/region  All students in the classroom are identified  Math/ELA studies are grade level advanced  Social Studies and Science are at grade level with enrichment Cluster Enrichment  Students are mainly from resident school  Classrooms are mixed with identified and non identified students  Math, English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies are at grade level with enrichment.  Pace of class is slightly faster but not a grade above.

5 Identification Process

6 Steps to Identify Students 1. Students are referred by parent or teacher or both 2. Parents are mailed a letter indicating that their child’s name was suggested.

IQ Testing—Aptitude Kindergarten Students  Retired School Psychologist  Two Subtests given  Test Location Admin Bldg.  March 12  March 19  April 9  April 16  Appointments scheduled every 30 minutes  First apt. 9:15am  Last apt. 3:15pm 1st through 4th Grade  Retired GT Teachers  Two Subtests given  Test Location at child’s school during day.  Testing begins March 9th

10 5. Families complete the Parent Behavior/Characteristic Form This form will be emailed to the address you provided. Look for an email from me in the next week.

12 6. Teachers complete the Behavior/Characteristic Form

15 7. Kindergarten and First Grade Students take Terra Nova Test. Test Location: Kolb Elementary March 5 th 9:30am March 5 th 12:30pm Small Group Achievement Testing - One teacher and a teacher aid -Ten students in a group Test Location: Administration Building March 19 th 9:30am March 19 th 12:30pm
