The relationship between age and run time is somewhat linear, but only moderately. The direction is positive since you tend to run slower as you get older.

Most women can run a 10K in 50 to 70 minutes, but two women took between 80 and 85 minutes. The shape is somewhat skewed right. The mean time was 62 minutes, while the median time is 60 minutes.

The correlation between age and run time is 0.578 verifying the positively moderate linear relationship. Since r 2 is 33.4%, this means that 33.4% of the variation in run time can be explained by age.

What is the predicted run time for a 47-year- old woman? Y-hat = 43.87 + 0.5918(47) = 72 minutes The average 47-year-old woman will take 72 minutes to run a 10K.

There is one 38-year-old woman in the dataset who ran the 10K in 81 minutes. What is her residual ? Y-hat = 43.87 + 0.5918(38) = 66 minutes The average 38-year-old woman will take 66 minutes to run a 10K. Residual = 81 – 66 = 15 minutes. This woman took 15 minutes longer than predicted to run the 10K.
