2  Mary’s special role in salvation  The gift of freedom from Original Sin and filled with grace from the first moment of her life  Mary was always faithful to His will and was always pleasing in His sight  Called herself by this title when speaking to Bernadette—Lourdes  Church feast day on December 8

3  Mary, conceived without Original Sin, was always faithful and never committed a single actual sin—death and corruption are the effects of Original Sin…at the end of her life on earth, Mary was taken up to heaven, body and soul  Church celebrates this feast of the Assumption on August 15

4  Annunciation—March 25, The angel Gabriel asked Mary to be the Mother of God  Queenship of Mary—August 22, Mary is Queen of Heaven and Earth (She became the Mother of the whole Church—Jesus’ words on the Cross0  Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God—January 1  Visitation—May 31—Mary visits Elizabeth  Birth of Mary—September 8  Our Lady of Guadalupe—December 12, Mary appears to Saint Juan Diego  Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary—November 21, Mary is presented in the temple as a young girl  Our Lady of Lourdes—February 11, Mary appears to St. Bernadette at Lourdes  Our Lady of Mount Carmel—July 16, Mary appears to St. Simon of Stock and shows her special care of the Carmelite order  Our Lady of the Rosary—October 7, celebration of the special prayer  Immaculate Heart of Mary—the Saturday following the second Sunday after Pentecost.

5 A remarkable miracle as Mary appears on the cloak of Juan Diego in 1531. Even though it was of poor quality, the material still survives today. 6 Mary, the beautiful lady, appeared to Bernadette and prayed the rosary with her. A spring of water bubbled up at the site and healed many…pilgrims continue go to visit this area for physical and spiritual healing.

7 Mary requests daily praying of the Rosary for peace in the world and sacrificing for sinners. On her final visit, 70,000 people witnessed the sun spinning and falling as a sign that she was truly there.
