1 This section of the examination specification requires you to look at: Reasons why some people believe in God Reasons why some people do not believe in God The media and belief in God

2 Reasons why some people believe in God You will need to understand the effects of, and give reasons for your own opinion about: a religious upbringing (does being brought up in a Christian family make you believe in God?) religious experience, (e.g. if God answers your prayers, will this convince you he exists?) the design argument the argument from causation.

3 Reasons why some people do not believe in God You will need to understand the effects of, and give reasons for you own opinion about: scientific explanations of the origins of the world unanswered prayers evil and suffering.

4 The media and belief in God You will need to understand the effects of,and give reasons for your own opinion about: how a television or radio programme about religion could affect attitudes to belief in God.

5 Lesson aims To investigate the main topics to be covered in Section 3.1 Believing in God. To explore why people argue about God’s existence.

6 Learning outcomes By the end of this lesson, you should be able to: identify the main topics in Section 3.1 Believing in God explain why people argue about whether God exists be familiar with the key words for Section 3.1 Believing in God.
