2 SOCIAL ISSUES “A social issue (also called a social problem or a social illness) refers to an issue that influences and is opposed by a considerable number of individuals within a society. It is often the consequence of factors extending beyond an individual's control and local geographical environment.” Name 3 issues that you think are currently affecting Australian citizens.

4 CURRENT AUSTRALIAN SOCIAL ISSUES As a group, you will be given one of these social issues. You will need to give a brief verbal account of this issue by answering the following questions: 1.What is the issue affecting Australians? 2.Why does your group believe this is a current issue for Australians? 3.How does this affect society? (think about how it affects personal interactions, costs associated with issue, stigmas/prejudice and access to services) 4.What strategies are currently being used to overcome this issue? Do you think there is a better way?

9 LYRIC POETRY Lyric Poetry consists of a poem, such as a sonnet or an ode, that expresses the thoughts and feelings of the poet. The term lyric is now commonly referred to as the words to a song. Lyric poetry does not tell a story which portrays characters and actions. The lyric poet addresses the reader directly, portraying his or her own feeling, state of mind, and perceptions.
