Early Life Events and Influences Rosa ParksOprah Winfrey Born on February 4 th in 1913 Born in Tuskegee, Alabama Left school as a junior to help her sick grandmother. Born on January 29 th in 1954. Born in Kosciusko, Mississippi. At the age of 9 she was raped by her cousin. She won the Elk’s Club speaking contest which earned her a scholarship to a four year college. Both were abused black women. Both wanted to change society.

Accomplishments/Beliefs/Findings Rosa ParksOprah Winfrey Started the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Received the Martin Luther King Jr. Award by the NAACP. Founded the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development. Received the Peace Abbey Courage of Conscience Award. Attended the White House Conference on Youth in Colorado and she represented Tennessee. An anchor at Nashville’s WTVF-TV. Won the Nashville Miss Fire Prevention contest. Became the anchor on A.M. Chicago and in 1985 the show was renamed to the Oprah Winfrey Show. They both accompli shed many things trough their life and worked hard to to do so.

Affects on History/Legacy Rosa ParksOprah Winfrey Known throughout the world for not letting the color of her skin define her life. There were millions of people who supported her Civil Rights Movement. Will always be remembered as the “lady who sat on the bus and didn’t let the white man move her.” Known throughout the world as someone who likes to help people in need. One of the first African- American women to have her own T.V. show. When she dies she will always be remembered for being there to help anyone in need (poor, colored, etc.) They will both be remember ed as Civil Rights Activists who never gave up a fight until the fighting couldn’t continue.
