5 Read the English version of Chinese poems and tell the Chinese meaning If you've a friend who knows your heart, distance can't keep you two apart. You can enjoy a grander sight by climbing to a greater height. 海内存知己,天涯若比邻。 — 王勃《送杜少府之任蜀州 》 欲穷千里目,更上一层楼。 — 王之涣《登鹳雀楼》

11 1.What is poetry? Why do people create poetry? Poetry is natural expression of human emotions. It is written in lines, and rhymed( 压韵的 ).

12 2.How to appreciate poem? You can put yourself in the situations of the poet and try to feel it.

13 Read the poems on your book and get the main idea. Tick out the words used to describe the beauty of the moon in the first poem. Tick out the words used to describe the appearance of Santa Clause.

14 Recite Libai’s poem “ 静夜 思 ” and Read its English version aloud. A Tranquil Night by Libai Before my bed a frost of light, Is it hoarfrost upon the ground? Eyes raised, I see the moon so bright, Head bent, in homesickness, I am drowned. ( ABAB) 静夜思 李白 床前明月光, 疑是地上霜。 举头望明月, 低头思故乡。

32 Post-reading: thinking! The poems are similar in some ways and different in others. List four ways that show they are similar and four ways that show they are different. Similar: The poems are both about a special night; Different: Poem A is written earlier than Poem B

33 Slight differences The words are put in an inverted order by the rules of modern grammar. He gave a nod and up the chimney he rose. (fully invented sentence) He gave a nod and he rose up the chimney.
