3 The Opportunity Peckham & Nunhead has some real and inherent advantages for creating a truly sustainable town:Peckham & Nunhead has some real and inherent advantages for creating a truly sustainable town: Big enough to have all the amenities a town centre needs - library, leisure, retail, cinema, public transport links etc. Low car ownership/usage and low need for car usage (40% households with a car). Wide interest in sustainability (eg growing on Cossall Estate, Transition Town Peckham, Peckham Power, Low Carbon Zone & Peckham Town Centre Forum ). Compact - could be perfect for walking and cycling to these amenities. Canal Path – fabulous walking and cycling link to Burgess Park and Central London.

4 But… Lots needs to be done to help change Peckham from being a place where people do walk to one where they want to walk. The Area Action Plan needs to address: High levels of casualties on Peckham’s roads. The quality of the environment for residents, those on foot and those cycling. Here are some places – there are lots of others too!
