2 About MEOS = Manpower Employment Outlook Survey conducted quarterly across the globe measures employers’ intentions to increase or decrease the number of employees in their workforce during the next quarter Since 2003 in Belgium – 1962 in US Meos is considered a highly respected economic indicator

4 Belgium Manpower Employment Outlook Survey shows signs of improvement of hiring intentions in Belgium

5 Belgium – Q4/13 : -1 After declining for nine consecutive quarters, Manpower Hiring Confidence Index is improving slightly even it is still negative

6 Belgium – Regions – Q3/13 Hiring prospects improve in all three regions when compared with the previous quarter. Positive in Wallonia. Negative in Flanders and in Brussels

7 Flanders – Q4/13: -2 The regional Outlook has now been negative for four of the last five quarters.

8 Brussels – Q4/13: -2 Hiring prospects strengthen by 4 percentage points quarter-over-quarter but decline by a considerable margin of 11 percentage points year-over- year.

9 Wallonia – Q4/13 : +3 The Net Employment Outlook is positive for the first time in 2013

10 Belgium – Sectors – Q4/13 Payrolls are expected to increase in six of the 10 industry sectors during the next 3 months. Outlooks remain cautious..

12 Global results Q4/2013 Employers in Fewer Countries Plan to Boost Payroll: Employers in 29 of the 42 countries and territories surveyed plan to increase hiring by varying degrees during the fourth quarter, compared with 32 during the July-September timeframe U.S. Outlook Strongest in Over Five Years Emerging Markets Lead the Way Hiring prospects are strongest in India, Taiwan, Panama, Singapore and Brazil. Weakest Hiring Expectations in European Countries: Employers forecast job gains in nine of 22 countries in the fourth quarter, compared to 12 positive forecasts reported three months ago. Upbeat Outlook in China and Japan

14 Q4/13 VS Q3/13 Hiring prospects are stronger in only 14 of 42 countries and territories, weaken in 19 and are unchanged in 9 Q4/13 VS Q4/12 Hiring prospects are stronger in 16 countries and territories but hiring plans weaken in 25 and are unchanged in one.
