All rights reserved. ® Administrator Training – Release 4.6.0 Scheduled Traceroutes Scheduled Traceroute Overview Traceroute in General Administration is for scheduling automated traceroutes DAP to entities DAP to VoIP IP addresses (range) Scheduled traceroutes are automated; these are not the manual priority traceroutes run for entities or collectors from the Navigation tree Requirement: Each entity and collector must have a channel assigned to it Scheduled traceroutes cannot be run using the Host/DAP configuration Confirm that an entity has a channel Administration > General Administration > Entities Use the split-column menu to select the column ‘Channel.’ This shows you the entities that have channels. LOCALHOST channel – name Remote DAP channel – full path For these entities traceroutes can be scheduled To verify that the traceroute ran as scheduled: Performance Reporting > Base Reports > Traceroute Reports 2

All rights reserved. ® Administrator Training – Release 4.6.0 Scheduled Traceroutes Traceroute Parameters – General Tab In the General tab set up these parameters: 4 FieldDescription NameEnter a name for the traceroute. DescriptionAdd a description to help you identify the nature of the traceroute. This is optional. DAPSelect the DAP from the drop-down list. The traceroute will be run from this DAP. LSR GatewayLoose Source Routing - specifies a portion of the route packets must follow. Enter the LSR gateway here. ProtocolChoose between UDP and ICMP. UDP (User Datagram Protocol) - Real-time delivery of packets to emulate VoIP transmissions. ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) – For testing a traceroute using TCP/ICMP. Packet SizeNumber of bytes in each packet. PortDefault port – editable; set at a high value to avoid conflicts with other processes. DSCP ClassSelect a value from the range of values available in this drop-down list. # of PacketsNumber of packets included in each traceroute. Max TTLMaximum time to live (TTL) - traceroute terminates if connection is not made within the TTL parameter. Days of the WeekSelect the check box for the day or days of the week you want the automated traceroute to run. Hour per DaySelect the hour during the day when ReliaTel will start the traceroutes. Interval per HourWithin the selected hour, how many times the traceroute will run; options are Once, 15 min., and 30 min.
