2 We will be reading articles that address decisions about whether to start working or go to college. Use the following questions to survey the text before you read. 1. What kind of information do you think the article will provide? 2. What do you think is the purpose of the article? 3. Who do you think is the intended audience for the article? 4. What do you think the writer wants you to do or believe?

3  The purpose of annotating is to help you connect with the text, to help you remember your ideas later when you write, and to help you better understand as you are reading.  Make at least 4 thoughtful annotations per page.  How do you annotate?  Underline or highlight main ideas.  Circle challenging vocabulary words.  Use text codes to mark ideas you have while reading.  Write questions in the margins.

5  There are lots of numbers and statistics in this article. Consider the facts and write a 5-6 sentence summary of the main ideas in this article using a few of the numbers or statistics. Make sure to include the title, author (anonymous) and type of text (website) in this summary.

6  You will be filling in a pro and con chart from the information in the reading.  Consider everything that you have heard or read and write at least one pro and one con in the section regarding “Going to a 4 year college”.

7  Activity 1 & 2  Annotated article Save Pro/Con chart for Thursday/Friday
