13 Education al Compone nt Throughout the span of the week, we taught each student the importance of physical activity and to become more aware of what a physically active lifestyle is like by discussing the importance and possible implications of a nonactive lifestyle at the beginning and end of each class. We would then ask the students a questions each of how they were physically active the day before after each class.

14 Reflection “It feels good to give back to not just the community as a whole but to the people as well. I enjoyed seeing how children enjoy being challenged in a fun and entertaining way. It was also interesting to meet with them one last time and realizing that they did pay attention to the lessons that were given and gave effort into gaining knowledge on how to defend ones self. Also seeing that some students were interested in joining classes made me feel good.””- Ana Tellez “I have been learning Taekwondo for a couple of years now, so it feels great to finally be able give back to the community what I have learned in a project like this. Takewondo is all about self defense and discipline, so it is a great opportunity for children to build up maturity while still having fun. Throughout the week, the students were thrilled to learn new kicks and get in touch with their rather competitive sides. The most rewarding aspect of this advocacy project was watching all the students go through the same process as I did as a child such as being taught how to somersault and do a jumping high kick. It's awesome to know how much more fun kids have being active with each other and exerting energy rather than simply staying home playing video games alone. The children who participated in this advocacy are our neighbors, friends, and families, so it only makes sense to advocate for the importance of physical activity at a young age because we want them to live long, healthy, prosperous lives in the long run and what better way to start than to start young.”- Jackie Diaz

15 “Whenever I volunteer I feel two ways; (1) tired (2) rewarded. When doing this project I felt rewarded. Being able to teach kids the benefits and entertaining, fun way of being physically active way such a great thing. I saw each of them change throughout the week and learn how to be young adults yet have fun while learning. It feels great knowing that I gave back to the community especially knowing that not a lot of kids know how to be physically active nor know even self defense techniques. It feels great knowing that these kids who are family member, neighborhood friends, and part of the community now know the values of self defense and being physically active and that they can spread the word themselves about both importances.”- Huitzil Zamudio “Helping kids learn something new was an exciting experience. Teaching them self defense was tough, but I noticed how much they enjoyed it. It took a lot of practice to learn, but on the final day the kids successfully completed the class. They learned how to count to 10 in Korean and is was amazing to see how fast they caught on. After our class ended, we had some kids sign up and continue the class. Knowing that my group made a difference in the kids lives was incredible.”- Yesenia Rivera

16 “It felt good giving back to the community, specially to the kids because the children of our community are the future and are an active group to work with. The children really enjoyed it, they paid well attention when something new was being taught. Challenging themselves and connecting with the other kids.”- Adriana
