Gospel of Grace FellowshipGGF.church0 by Eric Douma Gospel of Grace Fellowship February 28, 2016

Gospel of Grace FellowshipGGF.church1 Romans 3:21-26 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; 26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Gospel of Grace FellowshipGGF.church2 Romans 3:21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets…  The righteousness of God = God’s righteousness given to sinners that makes them acceptable to God.  Has been manifested (perfect passive) = Christ’s life, death, and resurrection in history has revealed God’s righteousness.  Being witnessed by the Law and Prophets = The O.T. predicted the work of the coming Messiah.

Gospel of Grace FellowshipGGF.church3 Romans 3:22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction…  Subjective Genitive (Christ is the subject) = NET “the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all who believe…”  Objective Genitive (Christ is the object) = NASB “the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe…”  Paul’s Point: God’s righteousness is accessed only through faith in Jesus Christ, but it is available for all who believe!

Gospel of Grace FellowshipGGF.church4 Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…  For (logical) = Paul again reiterates the reason why God’s righteousness is possible only by faith in Christ.  All have sinned (aorist) = (1) In Adam (2) By our own actions  Fall short of God’s glory (present tense) = all people continuously miss God’s perfect standard.

Gospel of Grace FellowshipGGF.church5 1.God’s plan of salvation through the Messiah is not a new idea. This gospel was rooted in Old Testament promises. 2.God’s plan of salvation has always been by “faith alone.”

Gospel of Grace FellowshipGGF.church6 Romans 3:21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets… Job 16:19-21 NET Even now my witness is in heaven; my advocate is on high. 20 My intercessor is my friend as my eyes pour out tears to God; 21 and he contends with God on behalf of man as a man pleads for his friend. Job 19:25-27 As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will take His stand on the earth. 26 Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I shall see God; 27 Whom I myself shall behold, and whom my eyes will see and not another…

Gospel of Grace FellowshipGGF.church7 Genesis 49:10 NET The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs; the nations will obey him. Deuteronomy 18:15, 18-19 “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him… 18 ‘I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19 ‘It shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him.

Gospel of Grace FellowshipGGF.church8 Isaiah 53:11 As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, as He will bear their iniquities. Zechariah 3:8-9 Now listen, Joshua the high priest, you and your friends who are sitting in front of you—indeed they are men who are a symbol, for behold, I am going to bring in My servant the Branch. 9 ‘For behold, the stone that I have set before Joshua; on one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will engrave an inscription on it,’ declares the LORD of hosts, ‘and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

Gospel of Grace FellowshipGGF.church9 Genesis 15:6 Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. John 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad. Habakkuk 2:3-4 For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; for it will certainly come, it will not delay. 4 Behold, as for the proud one, His soul is not right within him; but the righteous will live by his faith.
