CTF3-CLEX 12 July 2006 A. Faus-Golfe1 BPM´s for TBL IFIC group: A. Faus-Golfe, P. Modesto Mechanics UPC group: Y. Kubyshin, G. Montoro, A. Gelonch Electronics The group is composed by:

CTF3-CLEX 12 July 2006 A. Faus-Golfe2  Financing for a first prototype has been obtained from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science  A preliminary analysis of possible design options has been carried out  A technician to work on the electronics has been contracted starting from beginning of July The current status:

CTF3-CLEX 12 July 2006 A. Faus-Golfe3 The IFIC has since mid of 2005 two CNC machines that will be used for the production of most of the components of the BPM’s. CNC TURN MACHINE: Used for the production of components with revolution symmetry, it can be used for machining any material TECHNICAL DATA: Two axis: X, Z Automatic tool system: 8 pos. (we will tray to add motorized tools) Main drive power: 2.8 kW. Speeds: 150 - 4000 rpm Max. torque: 19 Nm Work piece dims.:  85 x 300 mm Position accuracy: 4 μm The mechanics: equipment

CTF3-CLEX 12 July 2006 A. Faus-Golfe4 CNC MACHINIG CENTER: Used for machining complex geometry components. For machining any material. TECHNICAL DATA: Three axis: X, Y, Z (we will try to add a forth axis). Automatic tool system: 12 pos. Power: 11 kW. Speed: 0- 8000 rpm (Main drive) 0.01-10000 mm/min (X,Y & Z) Max. Torque: 78 Nm Work piece dims.: 400x 300x190 mm Max. table load: 150 kg Position accuracy X, Y & Z: 4 μm Both machines are fully operational and will be updated with some accessories to increase their functionality. The mechanics: equipment

CTF3-CLEX 12 July 2006 A. Faus-Golfe5 The CNC parametric code is being developed based on linac BPM’s design. Our skill and machine capabilities have been tested. The purpose is to know which components we are able to manufacture at home and which ones we need to purchase from companies. The parametric code will allow a quick adaptation to the final dimensions of the TBL BPM´s (intermediate size). The picture bellow shows our first prototype in aluminium. The mechanics: first prototype

CTF3-CLEX 12 July 2006 A. Faus-Golfe6 A design of the head electronics amplifier is in progress Design option under consideration: transmission of analogue signal The design will use a development based on the analogue device IC AD8370 worked out by the UPC group for one of its previous projects. The electronics:

CTF3-CLEX 12 July 2006 A. Faus-Golfe7 The previous design based on the AD8370. The electronics:

CTF3-CLEX 12 July 2006 A. Faus-Golfe8 PCB plot This previous design has been successfully tested in another application showing a good performance. Currently we are analysing the possibility to use it for the BPM project. Necessary modifications to meet the requirements to the TBL BPM´s (power supply voltage, etc.) are under study. The electronics:

CTF3-CLEX 12 July 2006 A. Faus-Golfe9 The mechanic-electronics of the prototype is expected to be delivered by the end of 2006 (if everything goes as planned). We will be able at that stage to ask to the MEC for a new budget for the series production. Outlook:
