Alzheimer Disease Coronal MRI scan shows absence (left) and presence (right) of atrophy of the medial temporal lobe in a healthy elderly subject and a patient with AD van der Flier W M and Scheltens P (2005) Use of laboratory and imaging investigations in dementia. J Neurol Neurosurg Psychiatry v45-52

VBM in MCI VBM: 11 MCI versus 10 controls

VBM: individual patient ?

MCI: stable or progressive?

Conclusions SVM classification sMCI versus pMCI  at baseline MRI  98% based on DTI  84% based on SWI Higher number of microbleeds for MCI vs HC  but no difference between sMCI and pMCI Iron accumulation  MCI increased iron in the right pallidum and right substantia nigra,  MCI decreased iron in the right red nucleus
