4 Project Goals  Focus assessment of student learning on samples of students’ authentic work  Establish reliability and validity of using VALUE rubrics  Relationship between assignment and rubric scores  Relationship between assessment and other measures of student learning 4

5 SMSU’s Participation:  Six Outcomes at 3 student credit levels (25%, 50%, 75%)  Critical Thinking  Written Communication  Quantitative Literacy  Intercultural Knowledge & Competence  Civic Engagement  Ethical Reasoning  Demographic Data  Faculty-Reported Assignment Difficulty 5

6 Tentative Plan: Collection of Artifacts Year 2: Spring 2016 1. Written Communication 2. Critical Thinking 3. Civic Engagement Year 3: Fall 2016 1. Quantitative Literacy 2. Ethical Reasoning 3. Intercultural Knowledge & Competence 6

7 Assignment Parameters  Written student work  no multiple choice exams, videos, or multimedia  Does NOT have to be final project for course  Length:  3 pages minimum: Written Communication and Critical Thinking  No minimum for others  Individual assignment  No team projects 7

8 OPPORTUNITY!! Be a VALUE Project SCORER  Score ~100 artifacts in one outcome  Scoring: June1-July 19, 2016  $750 stipend from AAC&U  Must Attend Training  March 31-April 2  Kansas City  travel/lodging/meals are covered  Names are due: Dec 18 8

9 Project Timeline November-December  project briefings with CIA, LEC, Civic Engagement, IRB  Recruit faculty volunteers  Put out call for scorers (due Dec 18) March-May 1  Collection of student artifacts Mar 31-April 2: Scorer training May 1: ALL ARTIFACTS DUE May 1-15: Upload artifacts June 1-July 29: Scoring for Year 2 9
