1 SPC4C Please work on the following questions: 1. If you were wearing the following pairs of footwear which would have the greatest pressure on the ground? Explain Why? Snowshoes, Running shoes, High heels, Snowmobile boots, Steel toed work boots 2. Rearrange the footwear listed above in the order of largest pressure exerted to smallest pressure exerted on the ground (as in the question above assume the same person is wearing each pair of shoes)

7 SPC4C Lab Activity Analyze Forces on a Two Cylinder System Using the 2 syringe (cylinder) system that has been preassembled, add varying masses to the cylinder plungers and observe the system behaviour as the plunger on the small cylinder is activated and the plunger on the large cylinder responds. Cycle the plunger on the small cylinder several times until the mass on the large cylinder reaches the maximum extension. Summary

8 SPC4C Lab Activity Analyze Forces on a Two Cylinder System Add mass 1 (M1) to the small cylinder. Select M1 so that the mass is enough to overcome the piston force on the cylinder (Just enough force to move the piston through the cylinder) Add mass 2 (M2) to the large cylinder. Initially M2=M1 then repeat the process by increasing M2 by 10g each iteration. Eg. M1, M1+10g, M1+20g, M1+30g etc. until the large cylinder piston reaches the maximum extension. Record your results in chart form as shown on the next slide. Procedure
