Objectives  Problem Statement  Problem Solution  Project Design  Prototype Design and Differences  Future Improvements  Video  Questions

Problem Statement  More cargo space needed than what is provided on the back of the ATV especially when hunting  Often cumbersome to carry a trailer behind an ATV  Existing products are not collapsible or easily portable

Problem Solution  Design a collapsible carrier that fits on the back of an ATV  Must be unobtrusive when not used, but can be deployed as needed  Support additional weight of the cargo, specifically, the average weight of a deer  Functional on rough terrain

Design Criteria  Strength  Stability  Portability  Minimize Path Limitation  Ease of Setup  Versatility

Selected Design  Folding Hook Design  Rigid Construction  Expandable Base  Load Bearing Arms Lock at 0° (collapsed) and 90° (deployed)  Angled Hook Arms Secure Load

Selected Design (cont) Pros  Rigid Construction – capable of supporting heavy loads (10 point buck)  Expandable Base – capable of supporting a wide range of cargo  Compact Construction – small footprint  Easy to deploy – 4 adjustments  Easy to load – pivoting main body allows for easy loading of large game Cons  Not easy to support small or flexible loads  A relatively large load may be needed to secure hook arms

Design Partition – Expanding Arms  Arm span adjustable from 30 inches to 50 inches wide  Adjusts in 2 inch increments  Adjustable cargo net available to support small or flexible loads

Design Partition – Hook Arms  Hook arms lock at 0° (collapsed) and 90° (deployed)  16 inch extension arms extend to 40° to contain load

Prototype Design Differences from Production Design  No hinge and latch assembly  Vertical bars not threaded  Pins not tethered

Future Improvements  Thinner gage steel or other lighter metal used to lighten the design  Net design improved to shorten setup time  Tolerances adjusted to eliminate play in folding arms  Automatic locking pins replace tethered pins to eliminate removable parts
