Bluebird Habitat

Nesting Box Design Step slant to roof, angled front panel & predator guard deters unwelcome guests Hinged front panel makes cleaning & monitoring easier Angled front panel also makes it easier for nestlings to fledge Peterson design calls for a 1 3/8 x 2 1/4 oblong hole

Nestbox Placement Place in open grassy areas with widely scattered trees and shrubs – Areas with brush and woody vegetation will result in habitation by house wrens. – Place well away from buildings Mount nest boxes 4 to 6 feet above the ground on a metal or wooden post – Placing boxes low to the ground helps to deter sparrows from inhabiting them Face box away from prevailing winds and rain and where the box receives a fair amount of sunlight Tree or shrub should be located 25 to 100 feet away in front of a box entrance – Provides a perch for foraging adults and fledglings will use this cover on their first flight

General Principle Attempt to accommodate the natural nesting instincts and requirements of the birds while still allowing for weekly monitoring during the breeding season

Watch & enjoy!
