Applicants must apply in advance of the event requiring support and may not receive support for events that have already occurred. More information: Fund to Sustain Research Excellence Applications due August 1, 2013 Investigators that have recently submitted a non-mentored NIH grant application that was scored (un-scored applications will not be accepted), but just missed the payline, are eligible to apply for funding. Applicants must be in need of support and have a potentially fundable R01 or similar non-mentored NIH grant, application can not be based on an A1 submission. R03, R21, F32 and ARRA Grants will not be eligible. ARRA Grants Criteria for selection will include need and scientific merit. Scientific merit will be inferred from the NIH peer-review summary statement, priority score, and other application materials. More information: BRI Funding Opportunities

English as a Second Language (ESL) for Scientists Apply by August 1, 2013 Apply online at: The Office for Research Careers, Center for Faculty Development and Diversity, and the Biomedical Research Institute are pleased to offer English as a Second Language for Scientists. The course is geared toward postdoctoral fellows, and other BWH researchers may apply and will be accepted as space allows. This course is designed to improve the communication skills of postdoctoral research fellows whose first language is not English and to help integrate them into their English-speaking environment. Class instruction will be highly interactive and conversation-based. Class size is limited so that each student is able to speak often and receive significant and useful feedback. Two or three course levels will be offered, geared toward the majority of the participants, and based upon the results of placement testing. Courses will be held onsite at BWH, once weekly.
