Purposes of Public Speaking

Inform To give your audience information or knowledge on a given subject.

Persuade To get your audience to be on your side of an issue. After the speech is over, you want the audience to believe something he didn’t believe before he/she started listening. Demonstrate To show your audience step-by-step instruction of a certain task so that the listener learns to perform that task.

Entertain A speech that makes the audience happy, but often has hidden goals. An example would be that the speech would humorously reveal important truths or move ideas forward.
