Explain what is meant by 'place'. 2 marks The channels of distribution the company chooses to sell to its customers, so the products end up with the consumer. For a product to sell it must be in the right place at the right time’.

What are the other 3P’s of the marketing mix. 3 They are: Product Promotion Price

Explain the difference between a 'consumer‘ and a customer. 4 marks A customer will buy a product from the supplier and then will use the product to become the consumer or will sell the product on to an end user the consumer. A customer buying a chocolate bar from a retailer or a wholesaler.

Direct sales and transportation 6 marks This is when a product is sold direct to the consumer direct from the supplier. Holidays can be sold direct to the consumer via the internet, as well as Dell Computers, it does not matter where the producer is in the world. One of the main methods is sending the postal system as well as delivery drivers.

Explain the role of an 'agent' 2 marks Agents are like wholesalers as they are "middle men". However, they take a commission on the goods when they are sold rather than owning them.

How does a 'wholesaler' differ from a 'retailer' 2 marks The wholesaler buys in large quantities, breaks these down into smaller quantities (e.g. Makro buys 200 packs of 48 Mars bars then offers them in the store in single packs of 48.) The retailer buys from the wholesaler and breaks the goods down further and offers single items to the consumer.
