Ways of seed dispersal 1.Wind dispersal 2.Water dispersal 3.Animal food 4.Drop and roll 5.Bursting 6.Shakers 7.Catching a lift

How does wind dispersal happen? The seeds are light and tiny. They are so light that they can be blown away by the wind

How does water dispersal happen? Some fruits can float. Example: coconut, lemon and oranges.

How does animal dispersal happen? When an animal eats these fruits the little seeds are not digested and pass through the animal, unharmed and surrounded by fertiliser

How does drop and roll dispersal happen? The casing of the fruits from the trees split when they land on the ground. The seed then rolls away from the casing.

How does bursting dispersal happen? These fruits suddenly burst open throwing the seeds in all directions.

How does shaker dispersal happen? Poppy seed heads, when dried by the sun, have little holes all around their top. It shake when it is windy and the tiny seeds are thrown out of the shaker through the holes.

How does catching a lift happen? Some fruits have hooks on them. These hooks catch on passing animal if they brush against the plant and get carried away.

Quiz Why must wind dispersed seat be dry and light? A. So that they can fly. B. So that they can multiply C. So that they can grow wings D. So that they can eat other food

Quiz Why is seed dispersal important? To prevent too many of the same plants To prevent overcrowding To prevent plants to grow too tall To prevent animals from eating the fruits. Quiz
