Region- Southeast State- Florida Capital- Tallahassee Latitude- 26.0°N Longitude- 80.7°W Florida

Ten thousand islands. Located in north west part of park. Islands are 1 fifth of park. some of their names are Gumbo Limbo Trail, Royal Palm and Flamingo. Covers 1,400,533 acres on the southwest. Tree Islands Mangrove trees form islands with there strong roots that connect.

Over 4,000 years ago settlers lived in the Everglades.

Culture details Tequesta and Calusa -Lived 4,000 years ago. -First settlers in the Everglades. Spanish explorers - early 1500s searching for gold. -Set missions to convert all Indians to Christianity. Seminole Indians lived in area. - were forced to leave.
