4-2 REVIEW MISS BATTAGLIA – ALGEBRA 1 CP OBJECTIVE: SOLVE EQUATIONS WITH VARIABLES ON BOTH SIDES; IDENTIFY EQUATIONS THAT HAVE NO SOLUTION OR ARE IDENTITIES.

WARM UP - MENTAL MATH Solve and check the equation. a)5y = y – 40 b) r + 1 = 4r + 1

SOLVE 5t – 8 = 9t - 10 GOAL: Get variables on the same side of the equation.

SOLVE

EXAMPLE Chris and Maggie decide to meet after school at a nearby music store. Chris walks to the store at a speed of 2 mi/h. Maggie bikes along the same path at 7 mi/h. Maggie gets to the store 30 min before Chris. How long did it take Maggie to get to the store?

PROVE IT!!! Prove (-2)(3z – 4) = 10 – 6z has no solution.

PROVE IT!!! Prove (-2)(3z – 4) = 8 – 6z is an identity.

SOLVE 2n – 5 = 8n + 7
