Waves. What is a wave? a wave is a disturbance that travels through a medium from one location to another. a wave is the motion of a disturbance.
The Period, or the time it takes for wave to complete on wavelength, is related to ____________ Frequency.
WAVE PERIOD AND FREQUENCY. WAVE FREQUENCY frequency measures how often something happens over a certain amount of time. We can measure how many times.
Waves. In order to understand Waves, lets think about water waves.
PROPERTIES OF WAVES. CREST The highest point on the graph of a wave.
Amplitude The max. distance the particles move from the “rest position” to: The more energy a wave has → The greater its amplitude Compression or rarefaction.

Wave Equations

Frequency Frequency is the number of cycles per time second – the unit is hertz. One cycle is measured from peak to peak or trough to trough. 2 cycles per second = 2 hertz

Period Is the time it take for a wave to pass a certain point. Period = 1/frequency or T= 1/f Example if a bird flaps at a frequency of 121 hertz (cycles per second). The period is 1/121 = ~ seconds Frequency equals 1/period 1/ = ~121 hertz

The Wave Equation Speed = Wavelength Frequency
