Decision support Structure of MIS can also be described on the basis of its support in decision-making in an organization. Decision vary with respect to the structure that can be provided for making them. A highly structured decision can be pre-planned. A structured decision, because of its well-defined nature can be said to be programmable.

Management Information System (MIS) Input Processing Output Data A management information system uses TPS for its data inputs. The information generated by the information system may be used for controls of operations, strategic and long-range planning, short range planning, management control and other managerial problem solving.

Executive Support System (ESS) Executive Support System (ESS) is an extension of the managements information system which is special kind of DSS. An ESS is specially tailored for the use of chief executive of an organization to support his decision making. Thus, ESS is a comprehensive information system which includes various types of decision-support system, but it is more specific and person – oriented. An ESS is designed to cater to the information needed of a chief executive keeping in view not only his requirements but also taking into account his personally and style of functioning, etc.
