Districts originally intending to carry out Soil assessment: Kalum, Prince George, Rocky Mountain, Chilcotin, South Island Districts receiving some training in Soil assessment: Kalum, Prince George, Rocky Mountain, Chilcotin, South Island Districts able to complete some of Soil assessment: Chilcotin: had air-photos taken and carried out one field assessment Prince George: had air-photos taken for 9 blocks and carried out in-office assessments Rocky Mountain: carried out 5 field assessments

Presentation of the results of the data analysis for 5 sites in Rocky Mountain District

What worked, what didn’t  When District person is familiar with soil assessments, the work is feasible  Aerial photographs can facilitate office preparation and provide some data  Form was too complex and unwieldy  Not enough time for training and field work  Therefore, soil component of Pilot not yet completed Lessons learned - Must revise form (make simpler field form, use same approach as SLB for CWD and Green Tree Retention) - More training and consultation from Regional Soil Scientists required - Must start early in field season
