Fresno NCore Monitoring Deployment Status Presentation April 12, 2011 by: Joe Cruz Air Pollution Specialist, CARB

What is NCore? New federally mandated ambient air monitoring station. Intended to come online on January 1, National Core Multi-pollutant Monitoring (NCore) stations. NCore sites measure multiple pollutants in order to support integrated air quality management data needs. Sites include neighborhood and urban scale measurements in metropolitan and rural areas. Sites are to be long term and sited away from direct emission sources. Network of approximately 75 stations nationwide, with seven in California. The Fresno air monitoring site was selected as one of the seven in California. The pollutants of interest include: ozone, NO/NOx, trace level CO, trace level SO2, trace level NOY, PM-Coarse, and TSP-lead.

Fresno NCore Monitoring Deployment Status On December 13, 2010, ARB staff installed the following NCore instruments into the Fresno station. Teledyne/API’s 300EU CO trace level analyzer. Teledyne/API’s 200EU NOy trace level analyzer. TECO’s 43iTLE SO2 trace level analyzer. Met One’s BAM 1020 PM Coarse continuous particulate monitor. Environics 9100 gas dilution system. Teledyne/API’s 701H zero air generator. CARBlogger/DMS PC-based datalogging system. Compressed gas standards

Accomplishments To date, we have installed and calibrated all the NCore equipment. Performed and passed the MDL test for the CO and SO2 analyzer. The MDL for the NOy analyzer is currently running. Completed the zero air generator check. Collected hourly data from January 1, 2011 for the trace level CO; and trace level SO2 and PM- Coarse from February 1, 2011.

Upcoming Hurdles Modifying our data management system to provide the highest 5 minute averages for SO2. Deploying TSP-lead sampler by 1/1/12.
