Areas a School Counselor Can Help With… Academic Success College/Career Prep and Planning Social/Emotional/Personal Concerns

Academic Success… Maximize and support each student’s ability to learn. Assist students in forming personal education plans. Schedule students in appropriate, grade-level courses. Help to ensure students are on track towards successful completion of graduation requirements. Assist students in obtaining the skills they need to become successful, life-long learners.

College/Career Prep & Planning… Assist students in discovering a variety of post-high school options. College, military, workforce. Explore with students a variety of careers and the path required to reach that employment goal. Work with students to discover college options. (4- year & 2-year colleges; technical schools) Help students explore financial aid/scholarship options; work with students on navigating the application process.

Social/Emotional/Personal Concerns… Assist students with understanding themselves. Teach students about the rights/needs of others and the importance of valuing diversity. Be there for students in crisis situations. Assist in the development of social skills. Provide an area of safety and mutual respect for the student to discuss areas of importance in their lives.

Keep In Mind… What you say to your counselor, stays confidential…unless: Someone is hurting you. You want to hurt someone. You want to hurt yourself. Abuse or neglect is occurring.

We Are Here For YOU!!! JCHS school counselors serve as student advocates and help contribute to students becoming responsible, culturally aware, and productive citizens, as well as lifelong learners. JCHS school counselors collaborate with school staff, community members, and families to help build a foundation for student success, achievement, and goal attainment related to post-secondary planning.
