What is the meaning of Satire???

Satire is a literary technique which ridicules its subject often as an intended means of provoking or presenting change. Why is this cartoon satirical? 1. Who is it targeting? For what reason?

It is usually meant to be funny, but often it has a greater purpose.....

It can be a constructive way to criticize things socially and use wit as a weapon... The movie Shrek is filled with satire because it portrays the princess as a strong character, which is the complete opposite of any other fairytale princess. In most fairy tales, the princess is innocent and somewhat weak and that's why their knight in shining armor comes to the rescue. "Shrek" portrays that much differently. Instead of the knight in shining armor coming to the rescue, and ogre rescues the princess and she doesn't see to mind at all. The beginning of this clip shows the opposition of fairy tales to this movie with the ogre dressed in armor going to rescue his princess. Ogre Rescuing Princess

A common feature of satire is sarcasm or irony, but parody, exaggeration, comparison, and double entendre are all used satirically.

You see satire in many artistic forms of expression including literature, plays, commentary, television, music, etc.

Satire is all around us everyday and is one of the most popular forms of entertainment.
