Adult Immunization Rates January 21, 2016 VAC Joey Eavey, MSPH

Adult immunization data Adult immunizations are not captured well by the IIS. We rely upon national surveys to measure adult immunization coverage. Survey data show that WA adult immunization coverage is consistently higher than that of the nation. BRFSS and NHIS conducted by CDC annually – Not all immunization questions are asked every year (ex: zoster asked in 2014 but not in 2012 or 2013)

Pneumococcal coverage among 65+ year-olds Data source: CDC, Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey and National Health Information Survey Pneumococcal coverage among Washington seniors is higher than national coverage.

Zoster coverage among 60+ year-olds Zoster vaccine is recommended for all adults ages 60+ to prevent shingles. In 2014, Washington’s zoster vaccine coverage among those 60+ years-old was 44.1% national coverage for zoster was 31.4%. Data source: CDC, Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey. Zoster was not included in the 2012 or 2013 BRFSS surveys. Zoster coverage among Washington seniors is higher than national coverage.

Tetanus Coverage among all adults 2013 BRFSS question – Since 2005, have you had a tetanus shot?
