Vietnam Protest: Introduction 1.TV coverage brought the Vietnam War into people’s homes. 2.Both Hawks (people who supported the war) and Doves (people who preferred peace) criticized how the war was fought. 3.Student groups and others built the anti-war movement.

Vietnam Protest: Introduction 4. Martin Luther King Jr. thought resources could be better spent on ending poverty. He also thought the war sent too many young men of color to fight and die. 5. Some people protested by burning the American flag, occupying buildings and burning their draft cards. 6. President Kennedy & President Johnson’s Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara even began to doubt the success of the war and the strategy of sending more troops to Vietnam.
