Voice and Emotion

You Know Writing Has a Voice When… It shows the writer’s personality It sounds different from everyone else’s writing It contains feelings and emotions The words come to life It comes from the heart

Words can capture emotion! The choice of words you pick when you write can make your written memory come to life. How do you act when you’re angry? How do you act when you’re sad? How do you act when you’re happy? Words are a powerful tool to express your emotions and let the reader understand what you are feeling. “Mother” – Short Story

Emotions are an important element of a strong story. Good writers let the reader know what characters are thinking about when something happens. But it’s not enough to just tell what a character is feeling. Good writers show what a character is feeling

Emotional Charades

Billy was really mad!

Billy’s hands curled into two tight fists. His face turned bright red as he glared at his big brother. Suddenly Billy threw his glove across the room. He whipped around and stormed up the stairs. His bedroom door slammed shut, echoing throughout the entire house.

Now you try! 1.The boy was sad when he heard his cat died. 1.The old man was afraid when he heard the fire alarm go off. 1.The little girl was angry when her mom took her toy away. 1.The baseball pitcher was happy when he struck out the last batter.
