8 Breeds of Dairy Goats Recognized By The ADGA (American Dairy Goat Association) In this portion, you will be able to identify all 8 breeds of dairy goats, plus a “mix” breed, by their unique characteristics. AlpineOberhasli Lamancha Nigerian Dwarf Nubian Saanen Sable Toggenberg Recorded Grade

Oberhasli Erect ears Medium to small breed Produces high amount of milk (2256 gallons per year) Very specific color standards ◦Bay with black markings on the head, dorsal stripe, belly, udder and below the knees ◦Does can be solid black

Nigerian Dwarf Miniature breed of dairy goats Well known for quality of milk for its size (729 gallons per year) Erect ears Any color pattern is accepted Brown and sometimes blue eyes

Recorded Grade This is a cross between two breeds You never know the exact outcome of them when crossed with two breeds Any breed can be crossed but Nigerian Dwarfs are recommended not to be used

Totals There are 305,000 dairy goats in the United States Wisconsin is the state with the most dairy goats with 33,000 Indiana is tenth with 9,100 dairy goats
