Why is the Arch (eggshell) so Strong?

When there is a force (weight) exerted on top of the arch, it gets distributed throughout the entire plane of support Force Distribution

This means each bit of the arch is supporting the smallest amount of weight possible, evenly. Other shapes do not distribute the weight like this Force Distribution
