Technology Education THE PERSONAL COMPUTER (PC) HARDWARE PART 2

Purpose Of Lesson Part 2 To teach students the basic internal computer system components(hard parts) and their functions.

WE WILL DISCUSS ROM MEMORY/RAM MEMORY DIFFERENCE 2 HARD DRIVES TYPES HDD AND SSD STORAGE MEDIA SIZES: BIT, BYTE, KILOBYTE, MEGABYTE, GIGABYTE, TERABYTE, ETC. EXPANSION CARDS – VIDEO CARDS & ETC.

RAM Memory It is like your short term memory. Memory for the computer to use for a short while and then forget about it (erase over it) If you do a lot of multitasking or graphics you need moree of it

ROM MEMORY ROM IS READ ONLY MEMORY BUILT INTO THE COMPUTER ON THE MOTHERBOARD LIKE A NEWBORN DOS DISK OPERATING SYSTEM

BIT AND BYTE A BIT IS THE SMALLEST UNIT OF INFORMATION EXAMPLES: ON/OFF, BLACK/WHITE, 0/1, OR ETC. IN BINARY 8 BITS = BYTE

BIT AND BYTE 8 BITS = 1 BYTE 1000 BYTE = 1 KILOBYTE 1000 KILOBYTE = MEGABYTE 1000 MEGABYTE = 1 GIGABYTE 1000 GIGABYTE = 1 TERABYTE 1000 TERABYTE = 1 PETABYTE 1000 PETABYTE = 1 EXABYTE

NEW Hard Drives SOLID STATE HARD DRIVE (SSD) THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR 45 YEARS THEY ARE JUST NOW BECOMING POPULAR

SOLID STATE HARD DRIVE EXPENSIVE SMALLER AMOUNT OF MEMORY BENEFITS: NO MOVING PARTS, VERY FAST, AND MORE RELIABLE!!!

Expansion Ports Places where you can place add ons to the computer accessories to the computer You can plug the new devices cords into the back of the computer

Expansion Card Used to add on numerous features to the computer. Plugs into the Motherboard Fittings will be on the back of the computer

Expansion Card Install

Expansion Card Back View Plugs of the expansion card out the back of the computer.

WE HAVE DISCUSSED ROM MEMORY 2 HARD DRIVES TYPES HDD AND SSD STORAGE MEDIA SIZES: BIT, BYTE, KILOBYTE, MEGABYTE, GIGABYTE, TERABYTE, ETC. EXPANSION CARDS – VIDEO CARDS & ETC.
