Chapter 7-2 Text pp p. 272 #12, 13, 14 Quiz tomorrow

 Being made in the image of God gives you a special bond with Him.  Redemption, bestowed at Baptism, elevates you to a son or daughter of God.  Material things will not satisfy your need for God.  Only an intimate communion with God will ultimately satisfy.  Prayer: “raising one’s heart to god.”  Prayer enables you to know God’s will and do His will.  Prayer forms the habit of always being in the presence of God.

 How does prayer relate to our need for God?  It begins a communion with God in which we raise our heart and mind to him.  What are some benefits of a life of constant prayer?  Knowledge of God’s will, ease in doing God’s will, a sense of having God’s support when we are in difficulty.  What are some specific forms of prayer in which we can engage?  Mass, Rosary, grace before meals, etc.

 This is the first place of prayer education.  Based on the sacrament of Marriage, family is the domestic Church.  (man was created male and female, remember, humanity is completed within the family and becomes a creative extension of God.)  Plan to make daily family prayer a part of your life should you be blessed with raising a family.

 What is the primary way of listening to God?  By reading His Word in scripture  Why is the Mass a rich source for prayer?  Because it is filled with scripture.  What is lectio divina?  Method of Prayer based on meditative reading of Scripture.

 Prayer is communication with God.  God’s words are best heard in Scripture.  Liturgy of the hours  Based primarily on the Psalms.  Lectio Divina  Read scripture slowly  Meditate or reflect on the passage.  Pray about your reflection  Contemplate, listen, for a response.
