November Floods After a week of continuous heavy rains over most parts of the country, most rivers became flooded as a result. The rains were most heavy over the western parts which is the source of most of our rivers. Below are captions from The Times of Swaziland which is one of our daily news papers.

The Forecast The Forecast Office issued a forecast warning of the possibility of heavy falls mainly over the western and southern parts of the country after using Deterministic Forecasts from UM SA 12, UM Africa LAM, the UK Met Office and ECMWF. Most of the stations recorded more than >50mm in 24 hour. This forecast was confirmed by the Guidance Products from RMC Pretoria, below:

Guidance Forecast

Conclusion The forecast was good as the flooding did occur over the area. The models used were in agreement. Epsgrams for Swaziland were available at the time and proved very useful. The continued availability and improvement of the Guidance Products has improve the severe wx forecasts.
