Two Step Equations Real World PRoblems PreAlgebra Farris 2015

I can solve verbal problems by writing and solving two step equations.

Remember the Rules What you do to one side of the equation- Do to the other side of the equation! Addition and Subtraction = opposite operations Multiplication and Division = opposite operations Combine like terms!

Words to Learn Addition = sum, more than Subtraction = difference, less than Multiplication = product Division = quotient Equals = “is”

Solve Equation: How much will she need to save each month? Shelia wants to buy a mountain bike for $180. She has already saved $60. For the next six months, she wants to save an equal amount each month in order to save the total amount. Equation: How much will she need to save each month? 6d + 60 = 180 $20 per month

Solve In his DVD collection, Domingo has 8 more than twice as many animated movies as action movies. If he has 24 animated movies, how many action movies are in his collection? Equation: 24 = 2n + 8 8 movies

Solve Toa is building a door. The height of the door is 1 foot more than twice its width. If the door is 7 feet high, what is its width? Equation: 2w + 1 = 7 3 ft

Solve You return a book that was 6 days overdue. Including previous unpaid balance of $0.90, your new balance is $2.40. How much is the daily fine for an overdue book? Equation: 6d + 0.90 = 2.40 $0.25

Solve Tonya bought some fruit for $5 and 3 boxes of cereal and spent a total of $17. How much did she spend on 1 box of cereal? Equation: 3n + 5 = 17 $4 per box

Solve Mr. Carter is renting a car from an agency that charges $20 per day plus $0.15 per mile. He has a budget of $80 per day. What is the maximum numbers of miles he can drive each day? Equation: 0.15m + 20 = 80 400 miles
