 Rome was the first civilization to master the use of concrete.  Rome was very practical in its architecture  They built aquaducts, roads, bridges, and canals

 Roman law created a sense of equality  You were innocent until proven guilty  The burden of proof rested on the accuser not the accused  You could be punished for actions not thoughts  Unfair laws were cast aside

 Latin became the language of the church  Romance languages were derived from Latin  French, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian all have Latin roots  Many words we use today in English have Latin origins.

 One of the most enduring legacies of Rome is its religious influence.  St. Augustine said that he didn’t care if Rome fell because “the kingdom of heaven was eternal. “  Although Rome falls, Christianity remains and will be the single greatest unifier in all of Europe
