A chemical reaction happens when molecules interact causing a chemical change. This change means that the molecules that interacted are combined to form something different. During this a reactant (a substance or compound consumed during a chemical reaction) is consumed creating a product (a substance that forms as a result of a chemical reaction) that has the same mass as the product according to the law of conservation of mass which states that the mass of an isolated system will remain constant no matter what happens inside. Relating that no matter which reaction occurs the matter will remain in number the same just will appear differently such as fire turns wood into ashes and smoke and does not remove the wood from existance altogether. arth/geology/chem_reactions.html mistry)

A Temperature change A color change An insoluble substance is formed A gas is given off

Activation energy is the energy required to begin a certain Chemical reaction like Magnesium burning is Magnesium reacting with Oxygen to create magnesium oxide using heat (fire) to start the reaction Burning Magnesium

Synthesis Decomposition Combustion Single replacement Double replacement Each of these can exothermic or endothermic During a reaction something happens with the energy making it endothermic or exothermic: Endothermic- Energy is absorbed (often it is heat or electrical energy) Exothermic- Energy is released from the reactants often resulting in a heat increase ciber00/8th/mattr/sciber/chemtype.htm

During a reaction something happens with the energy making it endothermic or exothermic: Endothermic- Energy is absorbed (often it is heat or electrical energy) Exothermic- Energy is released from the reactants often resulting in a heat increase Chemical potential energy is the energy in a chemical that comes from the arrange of atoms and molecules in objects that is released of transferred by a chemical reaction ciber00/8th/mattr/sciber/chemtype.htm gy#Chemical_potential_energy

This is a reaction occurs when one or more chemicals combine to form a new more complex chemical ciber00/8th/mattr/sciber/chemtype.htm A Synthesis reaction would look something like: A + B → AB meaning A plus B equals A and B together hesis

This reaction is when a complex chemical is split into smaller parts. The opposite of Synthesis /sciber00/8th/mattr/sciber/chemtype.ht m A decomposition reaction would look something like AB → A + B meaning AB is broken down into just A and B alone omposition

A reaction that reacts with O2 present and always has a flame and is exothermic is combustion ions/Combustion.html A house collapsing from a fire inside the house

A Single replacement is a reaction where a single element replaces another in a different compound that creates something different and new. A double Replacement is a reaction where parts of two compounds swap places to form two different and new compounds. Chemical formula example of single replacement Chemical formula example of a double replacement ciber00/8th/mattr/sciber/chemtype.htm A Single replacement reaction formula would look something like A + BX → AX + B meaning the A has swapped with the B creating something new placement_reaction A double reaction formula would look like AB + CD → AD + CB meaning the B and the D swapped places placement_reaction
