To Solve an Equation 1.Isolate the variable – get the letter by itself Inverse Operation 2.Use the Inverse Operation to isolate the variable. 1.Addition Subtraction 2.Multiplication Division

when a number sits next to a variable with nothing in between the two, the operation is multiplication. EX: 2x=16 Multiplication

Number to move: the “2” 2x = 16 Operation being used: “x” Opposite of “x”: “  ” Example: x = 8 2 2

Divide each side by negative 3 x = -7 -3x = 21 -3

When a number is written as a fraction, the operation is division. Division
